Doll: Chapter Three

Chapter Three

“Come on, doll!” one of them whispered very close to her ear. His breath was warm and smelt of stale liquor. She squirmed away. It was like he read her mind. No one called her Doll except Matt.

“Let me go!” she screamed.

“Don’t be like that,” the other growled, ripping of her blouse. The one who had called her doll ripped off her Levi’s. She screamed.

“Help! Someone help!”

One of them punched her in the eye, the lip, the arm. Blood ran down her face.

“Now you just cooperate and we won’t hurt you that bad.”

“Help!”

Despite all her begging, they went ahead anyway and after they had there way, they left her, naked, lost and alone. The only glimpse she caught of them didn’t help her much. They were both black men, big strong, black men. The sun was just starting to set over the horizon when she picked herself up and limped home.

“Doll!” Matt gasped and dropped the files in his hands. She mustered a small gasp and closed her eyes in disgust by the way he said "doll". He gingerly touched the purple skin around her eye. “Doll, what happened?”

Please don't say Doll, please, baby.

She tried to smile and laugh as she lied through her teeth. “I fell down the stairs of the apartment where mom lives.” He looked at her disbelievingly. “I’m fine.”

Two weeks later she missed her period. False alarm, she brushed it off without a thought. Second missed period, she started to get worried. Third she was for sure, and fourth she went to the urgent care for an official test.

She was pregnant with her rapists’ child.

* * *

She woke up gasping. Sweat poured down her face. She lay back down in the clean white sheets. They were cold.

Matt woke up and saw her crying. He held her, unsure of what was the matter.

* * *

The next morning, as she stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom, she gave herself a good looking over. Her eyes were sunken, she was pale, and besides the small lump beginning to form in her lower belly, she was thinner than she had been before.

You should have turned them in.

Who would believe me?

The police. Matt. Your friends. Your mother!

But I didn’t know what they looked like.

Hundreds of women get raped every year!

But why should they believe me?

She turned on the hot shower and steamed for twenty minutes, hot tears of shame and fury burning down her cheeks.

How easy would it be to just kill myself?

But it wouldn’t be fair for the baby!

But when it pops out, it’ll be black, and I will look like I cheated!

Don’t you even dare! Don’t you even dare, Doll!

It was okay. Maybe you should expand on the main character; after all, she's the main character for a reason. What does she look like? The only description you gave of her was that she had a small bump on her stomach and she looked thinner than ever but we don't know how thin or not thin she was before so its kind of hard to picture. As of what she should do, I personally think that she should tell someone--Matt or her parents. What's the character's real name, anyway?(Just for my own curiousity)
